According to a Wednesday morning report from Jay King of MassLive.com, the Boston Celtics will be without newly acquired big man Al Horford for the team’s matchup against the undefeated Chicago Bulls. Per the report, Horford has been placed in the league’s concussion protocol and has officially been forced from the Wednesday evening showdown in Boston.

The veteran big man reportedly suffered the aforementioned injury in practice upon taking a blow to the head.

Now a 30-year-old in his first season as a member of the Celtics, Horford notably inked a four-year, $113 million free agent contract with Boston this offseason. While lasting a mere three games in green and white before encountering the concussion, he previously played his entire NBA career for the Atlanta Hawks before moving north presumably in an attempt to contend for a title.

As a result of spending his first nine NBA seasons in Atlanta, Horford appeared in at least 67 regular season games in all but two of those campaigns.

Through three games with the Celtics, he is currently averaging an even 12 points per game to coincide with his 5.2 rebounds, 4.7 assists and 2.3 blocks per contest. Across his first three outings in Boston, Horford has led the Celtics to a 2-1 record en route to seeing 29.3 minutes of action per night thus far.

While the Celtics have already managed wins over both the Brooklyn Nets and Charlotte Hornets, Boston’s only loss of the season came back on October 27 in Chicago at the hands of the Bulls.
