The Cleveland Cavaliers have defended their title in the best way possible thus far by looking dominant on the court en route to an undefeated start. The Cavaliers moved to 5-0 on the season with a 128-122 victory over the Boston Celtics on Thursday night, a game in which the offense was clicking on all cylinders yet again.
It was a balanced effort from LeBron and Co., and this game it was James who led the way in scoring after taking more of a backseat in the first few games. He took that same backseat with six points in the first half against the Celtics, but then the reigning Finals MVP poured in 20 points during a clinic of a third quarter.
James finished with 30 points, 12 assists and seven rebounds, and he now needs just two points to move past Hakeem Olajuwon into 10th place on the all-time scoring list. LeBron got plenty of help from Kevin Love and Kyrie Irving, as Love poured in 26 points and had eight rebounds, while Irving had 23 points and six assists. Tristan Thompson got in on the fun as well with 15 points, 14 rebounds and three blocks. He too had himself a big highlight:
The Cavaliers shot 48.2 percent from the field and went 14-of-34 from long range. They also made 32 free throws on the evening, with Love stroking in 13 of those.
The Celtics fought hard to keep the game close after going down big, and they did it without Al Horford and Jae Crowder. Avery Bradley had another strong game with 26 points and 10 rebounds, but maybe the most encouraging thing was the play of rookie Jaylen Brown, who had 19 points and was a +15 starting in place of Crowder.
