According to a statement released by the team on Tuesday, Boston Celtics’ center Kelly Olynyk has undergone a successful right shoulder arthroscopy for recurrent subluxations. Set to begin an immediate rehabilitation program following the shoulder surgery, the veteran seven-footer has not yet received a timetable for his expected return to basketball related activities.
The 25-year-old initially sustained the right shoulder trouble earlier in the season while attempting to play down the stretch before officially being ruled out by the Celtics.
Now preparing for his fourth season as a member of the Celtics, Olynyk was originally selected with the 13th overall pick in the 2013 NBA Draft. Over the course of his brief professional career, he has appeared in 203 of a possible 246 regular season games.
During the 2015-2016 regular season, Olynyk averaged 10 points, 4.1 rebounds and 1.5 assists over the course of an average of 20.2 minutes per game. It is also worth noting that despite his immense size and strong presence in the paint, Olynyk also shot an impressive 40.5 percent from three-point land this past season.
On December 11, 2015 against the defending champion Golden State Warriors, he recorded a season-high 28 points while shooting 52.4 percent from the field. Producing one of the more well-rounded games of his career thus far, he also tallied six rebounds, three assists, three steals and one block.
Certainly overachieving this past season, the Celtics’ success and unlikely appearance in the postseason can definitely be at least partially attributed to the increased production from Olynyk.
